Sponsor Found To Cover
Haulage Costs
August 2007
We are proud to announce that A.E. Beckett & Sons Ltd have agreed to sponsor the move of F-BGNR, Victoria Lynne to her new home.
Bill MacSkimming, father of Viscount 35 Association Co-founder Rob MacSkimming, was employed by A.E Beckett & Sons Ltd for a period of over 12 years until he retired. Bill mentioned to Simon Beckett the Managing Director of the company that the project was looking for a sponsor to cover the haulage costs from Hatch to Coventry. Simon without hesitation offered the financial sponsorship required to move the aircraft to her planned new home. Simon was keen not only to help preserve a piece of British aviation history but also help the son of a former employee who offered sterling service over a lengthy period.
Becketts is a family farming business situated at Wythall, just south of Birmingham, Simon Beckett is the third generation of Becketts to farm in Wythall. Simon's grandfather had moved to Wythall from Shropshire in 1937 to take up the tenancy of a small farm at Forhill. He always took part in the community as well as being a farmer, and so set a tradition which Becketts Farm follows to this day.
Simon's father, Alan, expanded the family's farming activities tremendously and it was he who initially developed Heath Farm, where Becketts Farm Shop and Restaurant is now situated.
Becketts' business progressed from dairying to large scale egg production but today, while still farming over 1,000 acres, it concentrates on connecting much more closely with people and enabling them to buy their food direct from a farm. Hence the continued development of the farm shop and restaurant and the refurbishment of derelict chicken houses into the commercial and industrial units for which there is so much demand in the district. In turn these developments bring new and congenial employment to Wythall.
Becketts themselves are proud to be second only to Britannic as the largest employers in the district and contribute in many other ways to the local amenity. For example, recycling collection facilities are provided free of charge for Bromsgrove Council and facilities have been developed for the growing local community such as a day care centre, football pitches and, more recently, a golf driving range.
The Viscount 35 Association is grateful to have been offered assistance form A.E Beckett & Sons Ltd and extends our gratitude to Simon and the company in covering our haulage costs and welcomes them aboard as a major sponsor to the project.
